An out-of-state veterinarian files an in-state complaint over a misinformed client

Complaint: Complaint 18-106
Respondent: Ross Babcock
Premises: Palo Verde Animal Hospital

The complainant is Ronald Resnick, another veterinarian, who has concerns about Babcock incorrectly advising one of his clients regarding a particular Hills diet. He states that Babcock told his client that the diet was useless for female cats, contrary to the actual information the complainant received when contacting Hills. He also says that upon review of the transferred records he also has many concerns about Babcock's treament of the cat in question. The complainant contacted the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association hoping that they could assist in working things out, but they told him they don't do that. As a result he says he's left with no choice but to contact the board. The complainant also notes that the client is threatening to sue him based on what Babcock has said.

Babcock's reply says that it's all a misunderstanding. The cat was presented to him by one owner and entered into his records as a male cat, but he discovered during the exam that the cat is actually female. He says that male cats are more likely than female cats to suffer urinary obstructions, and that because of the cat's female gender and old age the C/D diet is not likely to be of benefit. He also says that Resnick is dealing with a different owner than the one in Arizona.

The Investigative Committee said that this was just a case where two veterinarians disagreed. Particularly as they were talking to different owners they decided it was hard to say what was being said or what information was being provided.
