The doctor thought it was allergies but it turns out to be disc disease

Complaint: Complaint 18-13
Respondent: Eric Cohen
Premises: Queen Creek Veterinary Clinic

The complainant's dog was making a noise while breathing and seemed to be in distress. To the dog's family, the dog sounded like it was in pain. Cohen examined the dog and performed X-rays, but there wasn't anything obviously wrong and he thought it might be allergies. At the time of discharge from the visit the dog began having problems with his right leg, and they told the complainant to bring the dog back the next morning for another X-ray. The complainant managed to get the dog in at another vet who couldn't get any information from Cohen's office, but as the dog declined, diagnosed the problem as disc disease. They went to a neurologist for emergency surgery and saved the dog.

Cohen says that he had no reason to suspect anything like disc disease based on the dog's presentation. He also said that he was sorry and they'd do better the next time someone needs a copy of records in a hurry, for example to try and save a dog's life. The Investigative Committee basically concluded that hindsight is always 20-20 and Cohen did the best he could not knowing what the other vets knew.
