A dog goes in for a dental and comes back with a whole lot more (including possible pneumonia)

Complaint: Complaint 18-48
Respondent: Greg Heitman
Premises: Adobe Veterinary Clinic

The complainant brought his two dogs in for dentals with Heitman. He notes confusion between Heitman and his assistant regarding whether one of the dogs needed an updated vaccination first. Heitman does the dental, the dogs come home, and one of them ends up very sick and spending a lot of time hospitalized elsewhere. At some point a suggestion was apparently made that the dog could be suffering from an infection initiated by the dental scaling. The complainant says the dog suffered permanent brain injuries as a result.

Heitman's response provides his take on the dog's medical history and states that the complainant's wife decided against preanesthetic blood work.

The Investigative Committee said that sometimes things like this just happen but did find recordkeeping violations. The veterinary board didn't agree and only sent a letter of concern.
