A dog has a wound cleaned up but the complainant later has concerns

Complaint: Complaint 18-62
Respondent: Ayman Wassef
Premises: Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center of Northern Arizona

The complainant, a registered nurse, says she brought her dog to Wassef for a new abrasion on his chest but that Wassef diagnosed it as an old, infected wound instead. She states her concerns about the brief exam given before the procedure to clip and flush the affected area. She also states that she reviewed the medications given to her dog and that the dose of hydromorphone was far too high (3.5mg in a 77-pound dog and combined with other medication).

Wassef's response states that he examined the dog and that the dog was resistant until a muzzle was applied. He also explains that he stated the wound was an older wound and offered surgery under general anesthesia or cleaning the wound under sedation, and the complainant selected the latter. He also states that his medication dosing was correct and provides references from his copy of Plumb's and from pharmaceutical inserts.

The Investigative Committee found no fault in Wassef's case. They state that the complainant chose the method of treating the wound and that the medication dosages were actually on the low side of the recommeded dosages.
