Respondent: | Erica Butler |
Premises: | 1st Pet Veterinary Centers Mesa |
Related: | 18-73 |
This complaint is the prequel to 18-73, so most of the story can be found there. This portion concerns when the complainant brought her dog to 1st Pet Mesa and Butler performed labs and an x-ray. The complainant states that she was left with the impression that her dog was going to die from a liver disease and needed to be seen at another 1st Pet location where the necessary staff and equipment were available.
Butler states that she performed blood work and x-rays that suggested an enlarged liver and spleen. She also noted that the dog's liver values were elevated along with some other abnormalities, so she recommended the dog be seen by Babyak at the Chandler location. The Mesa location had no access to an internal medicine specialist or a higher-quality ultrasound machine. She also says that she offered hospitalization at Mesa and suggested that she attempt to contact Greene, an internal medicine specialist that 1st Pet works with on occasion. Butler states that the complainant said she couldn't afford the $3000 necessary and took the dog home to be seen by Babyak later on; medications were dispensed.
The Investigative Committee discussion is short and sweet: "The Committee discussed that Respondent examined the dog, performed diagnostics and recommended an ultrasound. She completed a thorough work-up on the dog."
