A quick-thinking complainant saves a dog from being pushed into euthanasia: Part II

Complaint: Complaint 18-82
Respondent: Shannon Kafer
Premises: 1st Pet Veterinary Centers Mesa
Related: 18-81

This is the sequel to 18-81 when the dog comes back to 1st Pet. The complainants originally brought their dog to 1st Pet because of an infection in the "female organs," took the dog home, and then brought the dog back when it was doing worse. At that point, a discount ultrasound was performed by Kafer who diagnosed pyometra and recommended a $4000 surgery or euthanasia. The complainant was shocked that euthanasia would be recommended in such a case and took the dog to a different clinic where the surgery was performed at half the price. The dog apparently recovered well.

Kafer notes that when the dog was brought to her the dog was experiencing new symptoms not noted on Waldo's initial workup. Kafer states that the complainants decided to seek cheaper care elsewhere and the dog was discharged with antibiotics. She also states that considering euthanasia is, in her words, "an unfortunate burden of responsible pet owners" in such situations.

The Investigative Committee appears to have copied their discussion from 18-81 verbatim.
