Respondent: | Jenna Adair Krohn |
Premises: | Banfield Mesa 1066 |
The complainants say they had a Puppy Care contract at Banfield. A blood test came back with abnormalities (a clotting problem) but a subsequent one was good. The complainants say that Krohn refused to perform a spay surgery without additional blood work and Banfield won't let them out of their Puppy Care contract without spending another $400. They want the vet board to look into what they view as unnecessary testing.
Adair's response states that the trouble started with routine anesthetic bloodwork that found a low platelet count. She says that she told one of the complainants that a test for clotting time should be done and a repeat CBC should be run with specialist review before a spay was performed. The clotting time was normal but the complainant never brought the dog in for the CBC recheck. The other complainant eventually came in to schedule an exam and discovered that the spay never happened. This led to a conversation with Adair where she says that the clotting time may have been normal but that a CBC recheck should be performed before the surgery. When the complainant wanted out of her Puppy Care contract she was sent to the manager. Adair notes that in her view doing the surgery in light of a potential blood disorder could result in some serious complications including death.
The Investigative Committee discussed that after reviewing all the information they found no violations.
