A Husky presents with possible hotspots that may have been foxtails and gets a $1000 bill

Complaint: Complaint 19-81
Respondent: Elizabeth Glicksman
Premises: AZPetVet Roadrunner Animal Hospital

The complainant says she took her dog to the clinic because she was worried about hotspots. She says that the vet told her that the dog had lesions and that the dog should be shaved. She asked if they had to because the dog was a Husky, but the vet allegedly told her there were no other methods and that none of the groomers had the time to look at the dog. She says the dog was sedated for four hours and was shaved excessively, and she also says the vet selectively showed her pictures of the dog to minimize the situation before just moving on to the next pet. She wanted to speak with the manager but was told the manager was unavailable. She also received a number to call the corporation but found it was not in service. She believes their actions were excessive and has concerns about the $1000 bill.

Glicksman's response states that the hotspots were actually foxtails likely picked up during a hiking trip the weekend before. The dog was actually quite painful in the leg and also had a significant wound requiring treatment. She states that she received consent from the complainant, sedated the dog, attended to the wound, and then shaved the dog after discovering foxtails throughout the entire coat. She also said that she told the complainant that it could even be more serious than foxtails and recommended a culture of the wound, blood testing, and a test for Valley Fever. She states she was genuinely shocked to see the complaint because the complainant seemed happy.

The Investigative Committee found no violations and the discussion portion of the file is just a single sentence. The large gap between what the complainant says happened and what Glicksman says happened doesn't appear to be addressed.
