Respondent: | Adam Staerkel |
Premises: | Unknown |
Staerkel applied for and get a veterinary technician license in Arizona in 2015 and 2016. It appears that during this first application he didn't mention a couple of DUIs that happened almost a decade prior in another state. When he went back to reactivative his veterinary technician license he made the mistake of doing what he was supposed to and putting them on the form, at which point the Board opened an investigation on him.
He says that he's never intentionally misled anyone and finds it difficult to believe that he didn't disclose it the first time but defers to the Board; he points out that the state's application process was actually more difficult than taking the veterinary technician license, so it's possible that he missed it when trying to rush and fill out the paperwork.
The Board gave sentenced this poor guy to four hours of continuing education and a $250 civil penalty. You should compare that to some of the few cases when a veterinarian was actually found guilty of harming or killing someone's pet; it's not too far off.
