A veterinarian who had a dog die of hypothermia during surgery fails to meet his board order

Complaint: Complaint 20-110
Respondent: Ivan Weinstein
Premises: Unknown
Related: 18-17

You may remember Weinstein from 18-17. In that case a dog died after surgery, likely from hypothermia. It's quite the read. The Board actually found several violations and required him to take continuing education and pay a $2500 fine. It turns out that the Board approved his continuing education plan but never heard back from him with an update or the $2500.

Weinstein's response says that he's sorry and didn't know that he needed to have the continuing education information due in yet. He includes copies of his continuing education certificates in the letter. He says that he can't pay the $2500 because his hours were cut due to coronavirus, his wife died and had unexpected funeral expenses, and he broke his humerus and may have unexpected medical expenses. He says he would be happy to work out a payment plan. He also says they sent their letter to the wrong address.

The Board found him in violation for attempting to evade or ignore the Board Order and gave him a $2500 fine. It's the same $2500 fine he didn't pay the first time around, but it's a new Board Order.
