Respondent: | Darla Wright |
Premises: | Wright Veterinary Clinic |
This complaint is somewhat difficult to follow. There are various police and court cases listed that might shed more light on what's going on here, but it appears that the complainant is saying some of her horses were basically stolen by others; there may be other animals and/or equipment involved in other respects. Regarding the horses, it appears that the complainant believes they were taken to Wright for blood work prior to being shipped out of state.
Wright's response evades the complaint entirely. She states the complainant isn't a client of her clinic and she has no "active patients" with those horses' names in her system. Whether or not she's seen any horses that would be suspiciously similar to the complainant's doesn't get a mention.
The Investigative Committee said that the timeline was rather long on this complaint, detailing events running from 2015 to 2019. They say that Wright no longer had records for the complainant's horses because it had been longer than three years; this also seems to be a different shade than what Wright actually said in her written response. In any event, they say that veterinarians would assume the horses had been sold, not stolen; the law doesn't require them to verify the ownership of an animal.
For other tales where veterinarians didn't check who owned an animal, we have you covered! You can read 18-12 where Mark Fink euthanizes the wrong horse after not verifying ownership information. For a possible case of veterinary-assisted dog-laundering you can read 18-76.
