Respondent: | Paul Cuddon |
Premises: | Animal Medical and Surgical Center |
The complainant says she arrived with her dog at ANIC for newly onset seizures. She tells us that she didn't want any students around but that Cuddon asked them to come back in anyway. She also says that he encroached into her personal space and told her that she needed to calm down. She says he asked about phenobarbital and whether she had a DEA license. Chauvet, another neurologist, also offered to review the case, but at that time the complainant elected to not come back with her dog.
Cuddon says that the complainant was actually rather rude to him and that she was very upset on a call when she learned that Yeamans, another veterinarian at the practice, would not be available. He also explains that the students were not in fact students but actual interns from other clinics in the region. He says that most of the questions he asked were to check the history he had regarding the dog, and that at one point he did put his hand down on the table out of frustration that the complainant would not answer his questions. He also says that he asked about DEA licensing because the complainant had apparently misrepresented herself as a veterinarian to get her dog a prior appointment (according to Yeamans); he thought that as a veterinarian she might be able to write the phenobarbital prescription herself if needed.
The Investigative Committee found that this was a "beside manner issue" and dismissed with no violations.
