A torrid veterinary love affair leads to accusations of furry fetishes and self-medicating

Complaint: Complaint 22-05
Respondent: Michael Kahan
Premises: Chino Valley Animal Hospital

An anonymous complaint alleges that Kahan "participated in vulgar sexual activity as sent on the flash drive with images of people role playing dressed as dogs/pets" and that he had his colleague Fernandez write out pet prescriptions that he was actually taking himself. She also states that Kahan is on drugs whether he admitted it or not, having lost a significant amount of weight. She goes on to note that Kahan eventually snapped and attacked her after telling her that he was going to leave her, but later apologized to her children for attacking their mother.

For the veterinary response, there's a largely-redacted letter from Kahan's lawyer and a statement from Kahan himself at the very end of the record. Much of the information was summarized into an investigative report from Tracy Reindeau focused on the allegations. It appears that the complainant was actually his ex-girlfriend and that in fact both of them were charged with disorderly conduct during an altercation. Kahan was able to undergo counseling as part of a diversion program to avoid a conviction and successfully did so. Kahan also denies that he's ever had a drug problem and passed a urine drug test. A list of Kahan's three pets and their drug prescriptions is also provided, along with mentions of a variety of health problems over the years that resulted in the dispensing of Hydrocodone 10mg/Acetaminophen 325mg; some of these prescriptions were to be shared among pets in the household. (No mention if Reindeau or her staff snuck a peek at the furry photos.)

This was an Investigative Division report directly to the Board, which subsequently dismissed the case.

As of 2023 it appears that Kahan has left the state after selling Chino Valley Animal Hospital. He currently appears on the easyvet website and practices in Texas. A check of the Texas veterinary board's licensing system indicates that he obtained licensure in Texas in October 2021.
