A veterinarian at a local pet chain is accused of overcharging and not helping

Complaint: Complaint 22-30
Respondent: Greta Heinemann
Premises: AZPetVet Bell Ridge Animal Hospital

The complainant claims Heinemann overcharged her for $339.00 but that she didn't understand it was that much for just one appointment; she goes on to state that Heinemann also wanted $600 for a blood test but she wasn't going to go for that. She also claims that when the $339 shot wore off the dog was in horrible pain and couldn't walk, necessitating a trip to 1st Pet. She says that 1st Pet helped her pet get better, name-dropping four-time respondent and 1st Pet veterinarian Hanna Wachtel in particular (link). She also says Heinemann isn't competent, that she doesn't look well, and that she's way too thin. She wants some of her money back.

Heinemann states that she met with the complainant and examined her dog. She learned that the dog doesn't get any commercial food and subsists on a cup of milk with the "meat from soup bones, jerky teats and milk bones" (an obvious typo, but given the pet food industry I could easily imagine Jerky Teats on the shelf at PetSmart). She also says that far from overcharging the complainant, she actually got a 10% senior citizen discount defraying $85 of the cost. We're also told that it's untrue that they wouldn't help the dog when the shot wore off; she states that the complainant wouldn't give her pet oral medications, limiting her options, and that testing to sort things out further was also declined. She also takes issue with the complainant's description of her health and physique; she's passionate about her health in her fit fifties and lives a "ketogenic dietary lifestyle."

This complaint was handled by the Investigative Division so neither of the Investigative Committees got to take a swing. The Findings of Fact state that when the dog was taken to 1st Pet the primary concern was actually an irritated vagina; other issues including problems jumping off and on the furniture are also mentioned.
