A dog dies after surgery for potential oral cancer at a known veterinary premises: Part III

Complaint: Complaint 22-72
Respondent: Chris Beck
Premises: University Pet Clinic
Related: 22-70, 22-71

This complaint follows from 22-70 and pertains to Beck's involvement. Beck was the CVT the day of the dental and also spoke with the complainant at discharge; the complainant also says he provided instructions different than those on the back of the box.

Beck's response states that he handled the discharge, speaking to the complainant about the CUPS diagnosis, showing her a photo and providing instructions. He also passed along information on a veterinary dental referral at SAVSEC. He also relayed that pulling all the teeth might be the only option, but he says the complainant said the dog wasn't a candidate for that kind of procedure.

The Investigative Committee found no issues that rose to the level of a violation. (The author is no fan of the veterinary system at all, but it's hard to see how Beck could be held responsible for anything beyond showing up to work; he was just the messenger, and to the extent he participated in the dental, any problems were above his pay grade.)
