Respondent: | Jamie Whiting |
Premises: | Mesquite Veterinary Hospital |
The complainant relates that her cat developed severe sneezing and was told by Whiting that it was feline leukemia virus and to let it pass; no tretment was required. She states that it didn't pass, and previously her cat had been given antibiotics that resolved the symptoms. She called for several days but could not obtain openings; she was finally told there would be no appointments but urgent care appointments for the next week. She notes a wide disparity between reguar and emergency care visits, saying that veterinarians are taking advantage of seniors with higher prices and forcing them to postpone care. She ends by asking them to just raise prices to resolve the shortage rather than make people wait for weeks.
Whiting says that he knew nothing of this until he received the complaint letter from the board. They don't keep records of phone calls requesting appointments. He says the last time he saw the cat was months prior and has no record of the cat having feline leukemia nor of dispensing antibiotics. He also says that as an employee he has no control over prices. (The Findings of Fact state that the responsible veterinarian, Baker, was contacted and said that they were dealing with overflow from emergency clinics; as a result, they have a dedicated vet that sees urgent and emergency patients on Mondays.)
This was handled by the Investigative Division, so there's Investigative Committee discussion.
