A dog goes in for stitches then pulls them out and the e-collar size may be responsible: Part I

Complaint: Complaint 19-26
Respondent: Cynthia Barnes
Premises: Prescott Area Pet Emergency Hospital
Related: 19-27

The complainant says that her dog was injured at home during a fight with another dog. Her daughter called the emergency hospital and was told to bring the dog in the next day. The daughter brought the dog in and waited five hours before the dog was taken in and then was told that the dog would be kept overnight to put in stitches. Late that evening Kassing called the complainant to tell her the dog had been stitched and was ready to come home. She says he was sent home with a medium-sized collar from which his nose stuck out and some eye drops and antibiotics. The next day the dog pulled out the stitches when the daughter was at work so she called the hospital again; they said they would be charged, so she tried a different hospital. The vets at the other hospital said the dog should have been sent home with a larger collar and anxiety medication. She states that the dog did fine after the restitching at the second vet along with the larger collar and anxiety meds to aid in recovery. She also states that she tried to talk to the hospital about what occurred and received a call back informing her that she was being recorded; she says that she said she didn't care and told her about the situation, and apparently the caller asked where the complainant got her veterinary license from. The complainant believes there was unethical conduct and has concerns for the pets.

Barnes responds that she sold the hospital to Pathway Veterinary Alliance and was no longer an employee of the facility when these events occurred. At the time of the response she ran a veterinary software company.

The Investigative Committee found that Barnes was neither the responsible veterinarian for the premises nor did she treat the dog. One does wonder how the complainant got her name in the first place.
