A cat gets sedated for an ear infection and starts the first of many referral clinic visits: Part II

Complaint: Complaint 20-36
Respondent: Ryan Lunt
Premises: 1st Pet Veterinary Centers Phoenix
Related: 20-35, 20-37, 20-38

This complaint follows from 20-35 but pertains to Lunt's involvement. Lunt treated the cat but also appears to be the responsible veterinarian for the premises.

Lunt's response says that he only saw the cat once. He states there was no evidence of pneumonia and suggested that the problems may be the result of medication or damage to the ear. He says he also mentioned the possibility of an underlying disease because the cat had been losing weight. He never saw the cat again and didn't know about aspiration pneumonia until the complainant attempted to call him. He says he spoke with Greene (the drive-by specialist who finally diagnosed aspiration pneumonia) but that Greene never confirmed aspiration pneumonia, merely suggested it as the complainant couldn't afford all the diagnostics. Greene did, however, apparently tell Lunt they should have asked if the cat had eaten before sedation to try and avoid all this. Lunt says nobody can prove the cat had aspiration pneumonia elsewhere, and that even if it did, it didn't mean that it happened at his hospital. He says he'd love to see the cat again and run more diagnostics because he still can't rule out an underlying disease.

The Investigative Committee said that the cat had a different issue each day and that each veterinarian appropriately handled the condition. This seems to contradict what they just said in 20-35 where they found it perplexing that so many veterinarinans never tumbled on to possible aspiration pneumonia; curious, isn't it? They also had some concerns that Lunt took so long to get back to the complainant but there's nothing in the law that requires him to do so in any particular length of time.
