A dog dies from bloat after waiting for hours at a referral center that didn't have a surgeon: Part II

Complaint: Complaint 20-74
Respondent: Brandeice Garza
Premises: BluePearl Peoria
Related: 20-73, 20-75

This complaint follows from 20-73 and pertains to Garza's involvement. Garza was a veterinary technician the complainants spoke to after the dog was euthanized. They state that she said the delay (of hours) was normal for prepping the dog. They also say that she did not state the delay was because a surgeon was not on site. Lastly they say that she told them that BluePearl did everything correctly and that the complainants decided to euthanize the dog as a knee-jerk decision. They believe that Garza was part of a cover-up.

Much of Garza's response details how she perceives the complainants as angry, swearing, and so on. We also learn that according to Garza the facility had no local medical director they could speak with. She also claims that she was very compassionate about the decision to euthanize and that it was actually one of the complainants who said it probably seemed like a "knee-jerk" decision. Garza's timeline of events states that there were only about three hours from presentation to surgery (rather than over four) and that this three-hour wait was well within the standard of care. She also says that BluePearl sent the complaint on to PLIT (the liability insurance for the AVMA, which is interesting as you'd think BluePearl would be big enough to not rely on AVMA insurance).

This one gets really weird. The entire discussion is "No discussion took place." There's also a handwritten "no" correcting the document to read that no violations took place.
