A sick cat's appointment is too late to closing time for the veterinarian to actually do anything

Complaint: Complaint 21-151
Respondent: Steve Crofoot
Premises: Grand Paws Animal Clinic
Related: 21-152, 21-153, 21-154

The complainant says she took her cat to Grand Paws for blood work and a sick visit. She relates the cat had lost weight, had a fever, and was barely eating; she was giving food through a syringe. She relates that she got there at 4:30 PM with her family and waited until after the 5:00 PM appointment before Crofoot saw the cat; at that time he allegedly said he couldn't run the blood work or work up the cat because the clinic was now getting ready to close at 6:00 PM. She relates that Crofoot and his clinic knew the cat had many health problems so why did they schedule the cat too late to work up the cat's problems? Instead the cat was given a fluid injection and discharged; she took the cat to emergency and the cat was dead in 24 hours. She says that if you can't do your job or help animals then you shouldn't be taking appointments.

Crofoot relates his take on the cat's medical condition. We're told that he saw the cat at 5:10 PM. He also says that the complainant may not have been giving the cat his medication, claiming the complainant gave staff different information than himself. He states that he examined the cat and recommended transfer to AVECCC or VetMed; he wanted to ensure the cat was hydrated while the complainant drove the cat elsewhere.

The Investigative Committee said that it was all very sad but that the real reason the bloodwork wasn't done was because the emergency clinic would be repeating it anyway; it actually has nothing to do with Grand Paws getting ready to close despite what the complainant thinks she was told. They also point out that Grand Paws wasn't a 24-hour facility and didn't have any way to care for the cat so there was no reason to do blood work when they couldn't have helped anyway.
