A dog's pyometra surgery results in complications and a complainant fears a conspiracy: Part II

Complaint: Complaint 18-110
Respondent: Mary Ann Radlinsky
Premises: VetMed
Related: 18-109, 18-111, 18-112, 18-113

The complainant makes accusations of a large cover-up at VetMed and another clinic. After the surgery the dog developed complications that required a second surgery. She believes the complications were caused by problems that occurred during the surgery. In particular, she points to images sent from the clinic where she identifies a large hole in Radlinsky's glove that was allegedly cropped out in another photo. She also says the hole from the surgery was significantly larger than one would expect for removing the uterus. She also claims (though he denies it in his own complaint) that the veterinarian who performed a second surgery said that VetMed had made a mistake. Lastly, she reports that her dog's weight was measured as 60 pounds, the default for the breed, rather than 75 pounds, the actual value; as a result she also believes the medication doses given to the dog were incorrect.

Radlinsky explains that the uterus was very swollen and required a larger hole to remove it. She also notes that the complainant's request to evaluate the spleen required a larger hole. She says that the dog was weighed at VetMed and all medications were dispensed appropriately and we're also assured that she didn't have a hole in her glove during the surgery. Lastly, she notes that the cultures sent to Colorado State University from VetMed yielded a positive for pseudomonas aeruginosa; if the dog had contracted it in the hospital then she argues it wouldn't have shown up in those cultures yet
